Terra Sigillata (2020)

Terra Sigillata is one of the decoration techniques for pottery that potters used in the ancient times and the most remarkable one is Roman Empire pottery. Terra Sigillata is a very dilute suspension of clay in water. It is a slip but with more water.
For this pot, I applied the terra sigillata after making it and made the pattern with oil on green ware and fired it to 850oC with 20 minutes stay in top temperature. For testing the effect on pot, I created a Saggar box which has four circular holes that can hold one half of the pot inside the box which is filled with sawdust to make reduction atmosphere and the other half in an oxidation atmosphere.
