Making Diffrent Colours by Single glaze (2021)
There are multiple cases that can affect the result of a glazed product. One of them is the location of the pots inside the kiln during the firing. In our gas kiln, we use three shelves, one on top of the other. The temperature in the lowest part where the pots are closest to the fire is the highest. The middle level has a temperature lesser than the bottom and top level has even lesser than the middle. The differences are about 10oC to 20oC and the glaze reacts accordingly. The iron oxide glaze in our gas kiln at 850oC comes out darkest at the bottom level, lighter in the middle and lightest at the top level.
