Testing Diffrent Clay Body and Glaze (2020)

It is important to test the glaze formula on small pieces before applying it on original pots. For my PhD research, I had to test a combination of two local clays used by indigenous potters in Kanpur, India. I made eleven cups with different clay bodies and applied my iron glaze on all of them and baked them in reduction atmosphere.
The main goal of testing a glaze is to see how that glaze performs under specific conditions with specific materials. Another goal of testing glazes might be to find the best percentage for an ingredient such as a colorant. Yet another goal is to test an available substitute ingredient.

The glaze formula:
Low temperature transparent glaze (frit for 900) 75%
Sodium Carbonate 25%
Iron Oxide 5%
