My Work

Dialogue (2008)

Dialogue was the title for my final work during my bachelor’s degree in the Department of Art and Architecture in Sistan and Balochistan University in Iran. I studied traditional art and handicraft there and my specialization was ceramic. I designed an installation of ceramic artwork with ten pieces. I made four birds in different sitting positions. My inspiration was ducks who migrate during winters across our university campus every year. I made moulds of them and reproduced them with Raku clay followed by baking. The birds were glazed with different glazes and baked in a Raku kiln. I exhibited them in The Ninth Biennial of Contemporary Ceramics in Iran.
Later, the university bought the birds from me. In front of our department, there was a small neglected pool which I had to pass by every day to reach my classrooms, and they were installed in and around the same pool soon after. Surprisingly, one day I discovered an injured migratory duck on the university campus. It had some problem in its leg. I took it to my hostel room much to the displeasure of my roommate and nursed it for the next few days. After a few days, when its injury got a little better with proper care and treatment, I took it to the pool and introduced it to my works. The duck was quite happy and excited to see them, and repeatedly went and knocked on them to get a response out of them. Soon after, he fully recovered and flew away leaving behind a pleasant memory.
